  • You feel like you’re drowning in piles of mediocre essays and dread grading them each Sunday afternoon.

  • You want the best writers to come from YOUR CLASS!

"I have no time to sit and go through hundreds of websites to pick and choose pieces for me to use in my lessons, which is why I stay up late at nights or work on the weekends when my kids are napping. This is why I feel like my writing instruction has always been lacking. Using the EBW Approach has been SPECTACULAR. I knew that investing in the couple of hours of lesson plans would help me in the long run. And boy has it! Everything is so clearly outlined and completed. I just have to stick with the program."
- Jackie (7th Grade ELA Teacher)

"I am so impressed by how complete, thought-out, and well-executed Writing Instruction: A Proven Approach is. I've been disappointed by online courses and Teachers Pay Teachers resources in the past and, truthfully, I was kind of expecting to be underwhelmed. However, you did it! You've changed my mind and restored my faith in our community. This course rocks, and it truly has made me a better teacher!"

Hilary E.
6th & 8th Advanced English Grade Teacher

"This is an amazing approach, and this course includes an entire writing unit - it is so easy to use! Having resources that are organized and streamlined is incredibly beneficial for teachers and students alike. Anyone using the EBW Approach will not be disappointed!"

Ellen L.
6th Grade ELA Teacher

"The EBW Approach is so easy to implement in your classroom and will save a ton of time. You will really see kids mastering concepts they are going to need in the upper grades. It is so versatile and allows the students to really 'own' their writing."

Jessica K.
Middle School ELA Teacher

"My 6th graders are required to take the MAP Test 3 times a year (Fall, Winter, and Spring). My first class finished the Winter Language Test today, and I discovered that 82% of my class showed growth since their test in the Fall!!  As an educator who took a leap of faith from teaching kindergarteners her whole career to teaching 6th graders ... this is huge deal for me. I am so proud not only of myself but of my students!!!! Caitlin and Jessica - all I have to say is thank you. This approach is such a game-changer, and I cannot share my gratitude enough for you both for not only sharing this with everyone but supporting us along the way when we needed help or advice. THANK YOU!!!!!!"
- Marisa (6th Grade ELA Teacher)

Ready for the best news?

When you implement the EBW Approach, your students will transform into kick-butt writers! (All of your colleagues are going to wonder what your secret is and why the BEST writers always come from your class!)

Put simply?

The EBW Approach is the single, most effective way to transform your students into kick-ass writers!

The mistake a lot of teachers make is they think piecing together writing lessons they find on Pinterest is going to turn their students into incredible writers. What they don’t take into account is how slow and ineffective that is going to be! Teachers spend hours searching for a “just right” writing lesson, and it ends up being underwhelming and students are still writing weak, choppy essays

And then there’s the cost ... a $10 lesson here and a $17 unit there. At first, it might seem minimal, but when the lessons you’re paying for online don’t truly get your students to become WRITERS, it adds up.

If you’re like us, you want to have a writing plan in place that you know is EXACTLY what your students need ...

Frequently Asked Questions

This course is right for you if ...

  • You want to be that rockstar writing teacher whose students come back to thank you for preparing them so well for high school and beyond!
  • You’re fed-up with the choppy and disorganized writing your students’ produce (especially after all the time you spent planning and teaching).
  • You're unsure of yourself as a writer and have doubts in your ability to teach your students how to write.

  • You want the best writers to come from YOUR CLASS!

Not at all. We recommend that whenever you purchase the course, you begin watching the modules and familiarizing yourself with the EBW Approach and lessons. When you feel comfortable and confident with the concepts, then choose a convenient time in your curriculum calendar to begin implementing the EBW Approach. It will work best if you tie the approach into the beginning of a novel or short story unit. That way you can integrate an essential question at the start of the unit and have students gather evidence for their final Response to Literature (essay) as they read/analyze the selected text.

Of course, you can begin implementing the 10 Evidence-Based Writing bonus resources immediately! Just print and go, and use with your current ELA unit.

Absolutely! The EBW Approach framework focuses on literary analysis, and while we are confident this is the only way you’ll want to teach literary analysis from now on, you can absolutely use many of the same language approaches and mini lessons with your current program.

Absolutely! Here are just some of the anchor standards addressed in the course:

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.CCRA.W.1
Write arguments to support claims in an analysis of substantive topics or texts using valid reasoning and relevant and sufficient evidence.

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.CCRA.W.4
Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.CCRA.W.5
Develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach.

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.CCRA.W.9
Draw evidence from literary or informational texts to support analysis, reflection, and research.

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.CCRA.W.10
Write routinely over extended time frames (time for research, reflection, and revision) and shorter time frames (a single sitting or a day or two) for a range of tasks, purposes, and audiences.

Writing Instruction: A Proven Approach focuses specifically on literary analysis (text-based) writing. However, many of the strategies and much of the framework that is taught in this program can also be applied to writing for informational text as well. If you follow the strategies and guidelines covered in this course, you will begin to see just how much you can weave this approach to writing into nearly every aspect of your ELA curriculum. Doing this will allow you to consistently cover many of the Common Core State Standards for ELA and see incredible growth in your students!

We've done everything in our power to make this the simplest, most effective online professional development course for writing available.

We KNOW it works because it's the exact same process that's been behind the successes in our own classrooms and and the transformations that thousands of teachers have witnessed with their own students

However, if you're on the fence, then we want to give you every chance possible to "buy it and build it" with absolute confidence.

That's why we're giving you a FULL 30 DAYS to go through the program, follow the simple step-by-step framework, and realize for yourself just how amazing it feels to build a successful writing program.
